ABOUT
Hotel Lanesboro is a nine-room hotel located in the heart of downtown Lanesboro, Minnesota. Our historic building offers a comfortable place to stay just steps from local shops, dining, and the Root River. Over the coming years, we will be making thoughtful updates to the hotel while preserving the character that has made it a part of the community for generations. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, relaxed experience for guests who want to slow down and enjoy everything this small town has to offer.
Over 150 Years of History
Hotel Lanesboro has over 150 years of history and has been part of the community since the late 1800s. Originally built as the Thompson Furniture Store, the building played an important role in Lanesboro’s early life. During this period, Lanesboro was a growing river and rail town, and even figures such as Buffalo Bill Cody passed through the area while traveling and performing throughout the region. Today, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, preserving its architectural significance and Victorian roots.

In the 1980s, the building was purchased by Jack and Nancy, who transformed it into a bed and breakfast during a time when Lanesboro was beginning to emerge as a visitor destination. Their bed and breakfast played a significant role in putting Lanesboro on the map, helping the town earn recognition as the bed and breakfast capital of the world. While the town and travel have evolved over time, the building has retained its original character, continuing to reflect the history and charm that define downtown Lanesboro today.

Hello! We’re the Skellys. We’ve been married for over 18 years and have always loved road trips, exploring small towns, and discovering the character of historic places. That same appreciation for history and detail drew us to Hotel Lanesboro, where we could combine our passions with a hands-on approach to caring for a meaningful building.

We are on our fourth historic remodeling project, and every renovation teaches us something new about preserving charm while making a space comfortable and welcoming. That care and attention to detail carry over into everything we do at the hotel, helping us create a place where guests can feel at home while enjoying the unique story of Lanesboro.
